Skills development 5th November 2010

I have gained an understanding of what a shutter speed is. I understand that the longer I leave a shutter speed open, I will collect more light. The picture of the lights I used a a slow shutter speed, to create  a unique style. The photo of the lorry, I have used a faster shutter speed, however, it did not turn out as i hoped. The reason for this could be that i didnt keep the shutter speed open long enough to allow more light for a better, less blury picture.  Knowing my mistakes, when i come to my unit 3 production, i will be able to produce work at a better standard. Now that I have had experince with a camera, future work sould also be at a better standard. I believe that using the camera more in the future will improve my photo taking abilities in terms of qulaity and time. This is what i will have to do to develop my skills furthur.

Evaluation write up
Having used Photoshop for the first time, I have been able to create an interesting poster using many tools provided. My understanding of Photoshop has advanced my capabilities and increased my imagination. Using the cameras also developed my photography skills as I am now able to take photos at better angles and at a higher quality due to the knowledge of specific camera shots and the focused zoom on the camera.
I am progressing comfortably and feel much more confident of using the photo shop and camera without any assistance. However, I need to learn how to use other tools on Photoshop, but with the camera, it’s just a case of holding it steadier to get better quality photos.
Before I re-branded my product, I think the target audience would have been people middle aged up over (around 35 – 90). The product would have more likely been targeted to males due to the intense and distinctive taste. The packaging of the product was very dark (the glass jar itself was black) and the use of bold writing and non feminine colours suggests a more male product.
Having re-branded it, the target audience are now students and young adults (ages 16 – 24) but the gender remains the same as the physical appearance of the product hasn’t changed and the photographic story board contained photos of male people.
The use of a comical storyline for the photographic storyboard I think would get people’s attention. The final print poster I created would most definitely engage my audiences’ attention as I kept it simple by having big bold texts making it eye catching. The use of black and red for my font gives a dangerous feel and people aged 16-24 are more likely to take notice because of that.
Everything for my product I have done has worked. My photographic storyboard was much better than I expected and my final print poster was what I was expecting, so I’m impressed with the results. If I were to improve any part of my product, it would be to be more careful when cutting my image out of the whole image as the bottom of the marmite jar is a bit of a mess.
I think I have managed to create a product for my target audience of people aged 16-24 successfully. I do not think there is anything that needs to be improved upon and perhaps the end results were even better than expected.
In conclusion, I have managed to successfully create a photographic storyboard and a final print advertisement to suit my target audience. I’m impressed in how my skills have developed dramatically by using photo shop and great quality camera. The only thing I would change if I were to do this or a similar project again is managing my time as it created problems because I was focusing too much on everything at the same time that created confusion and stress.
