Magazine Front Cover

Magazine Front Cover

Magazine Front Cover Write Up
My chosen image had me focusing on an open framing feel to it. This is because I was wanting to crop my image out of the unnecessary background and therefore having a more open frame would be easier than having closed framing. I never used a tilt as I want my image level to the camera. I encountered problems when taking my image. The use of an indoor setting allowed me to lose a lot of natural light that could have been very beneficial for my image.
I used margin guides to prevent any of my images and texts to be positioned too close to edges that could cause problems are parts could be cut off when printed. Each margin guide was placed 10mm from the edge. I went onto a website www.dafont.com and found a particular font that I liked. The style of the font was unique, smart and sleek. The style emphasised the fact that my magazine cover was for music because the style of writing was very fun and creative, which music can also be described as (The font was called bleeding cowboys).
I used the blending options from the layers tab to blend my colours on the sweater worn by my model, however, I found that it was very difficult to get the colour I wanted, but with time and patience I managed to get the colour I wanted. I also considered using the colour change option; however, I preferred blending the colours and therefore used that.
Creating layers and discarding them was easy, and I found having one item per layer made my work much easier to do because if something needed deleting, I could get rid of that without deleting anything else with it in the process. I also found it easy to change my background, where I used the paint pot tool and chose the colour I wanted.
Looking at my completed item, one of the things I will definitely change next time is the use of colour. I think I have used too much orange/red, and although I may have stuck to the three colour rule, I personally feel this hasn’t paid off the best it could have. I also never used any drop shadows or internal shadows that could have gave my product a fun looking edge to it making it more appealing to my target audience and because of this, I will most definitely use drop shadows next time. I also don’t think I had enough sell lines and had too many spaces. This is something I will try to avoid next time by increasing sell lines and reducing the amount of space between my model and another item on my front cover.
However, the skills I have learnt and used will be beneficial when it comes to doing my unit 3 work. Downloading a font will be beneficial as it will give my magazine front cover a classier, more unique feel to it. Using the paint pot tool to change the colour of my background or other objects is a good tool to use when it comes to my unit 3 work also because even if I don’t need it for my background, any boxes I create can be changed with the paint pot advantage.
I think the only major skill I need to develop further is the brush tool. I am very aware on how to use it and increase the brush size etc, but I am also aware that it can be used for many things which I don’t fully understood how, but with more practice, should be able to become easy to use to its full advantage.
