Side lighting Blog Write Up
Side lighting is mainly used to create an effect. The use of side lighting allows for one side of an object to appear dark and the other side appear much lighter. Front lighting is getting a lot of light for good visibility and colour.

Side lighting can be used to signify many things. It can be used to suggest a person or an object is both evil and good. It can be used to give a sense of a mystery and give a dramatic effect. It can also be used to highlight a certain part of a feature (the brighter side usually) to emphasise a certain point.
For male and females, using side lighting can accentuate many features. For example, with males, side lighting can emphasise a face’s cheekbone tone and with females, the use of having more visibility and colour, it can enhance skin tone and reduce blemishes.
